I use archival data extensively. I am collecting data on state building in both China and England for my current projects. 

• For my dissertation, I collect data on prefects in Imperial Chinese bureaucracy from 1644 to 1911, supplemented by data on conflict. 
• I use text analysis to collect data on MPs in Britain, supplemented by data on roll call, land registration, and political elites that I collect from archives.
